About 12 days ago, I boarded a plane with my older brother, Robert Pierre. We were headed to the “Great White Town,” the “Executive City” … Yes, people, we were headed to. . . the one and only… Washington D.C.! (Insert political music of your choice now.) Pretty epic, right? Well, it was and I was a happy to be tagging along to be a part of something pretty cool that he was about to do.
See, January 23rd marked the 39th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision (the court ruling that made abortion legal in our nation) and every year people from all across the nation gather in our nation’s capital to have conferences, rallies and marches in protest of this devastating ruling made so many years ago. This year, Robert was invited to sing at several events, seminars, rallies and even high school assemblies. I was going along to support him and support the Pro-Life movement, in general, because I finally understand how important this is… how totally important it is to rally together to STOP the killing of innocent life…
As I’ve been growing up, abortion hasn’t really been the topic of lunchroom conversation at the girl’s table. They’ve deemed other things more appropriate, “What movies have you seen recently? What do you think of this bag? So-and-so assigned us this homework…” Etc. To be honest, it’s just never come up. Personally, I always knew I was Pro-Life and Anti-Abortion, but if I were to be completely honest, I’d have to confess that I hardly even knew what abortion really was. I had never heard the scientific facts, seen the photos, or watched the video footage. In fact, I had never talked much about it at all until my older brother, Robert Pierre, wrote and released his song, “Silent Cry.” After that, the Pro-Life movement became something personal. I love his song “Silent Cry” because it’s a song addressing the issue of abortion and calling us, Christians, to stand up and unite against this injustice taking place every day in our country.
The weekend we spent in DC was refreshing and inspiring for me. Contrary to what I suspected, I came home excited… excited because I could dream of the day, not too far away, when this awful act of abortion will be illegal again. A day when all babies will be given a chance at life.
